4th Annual Vanishing Landscape Benefit
Indulge yourself in art, wine and music while helping the Southern Appalachian Forest Coalition (SAFC) to preserve and restore the rich natural ecosystems of our region. Join BlackBird Frame & Art at their new gallery at 365 Merrimon Avenue on Friday, October 16th from 6 until 9 pm. Meet both new and familiar artists at the first event since BlackBird opened in the 30-year location of Merrimon Galleries. The occasion will feature live music, refreshments and fine food, a silent auction of select items, and opportunities to purchase art, including a special print release from painter John Mac Kah, all in support of SAFC’s crucial work.
We all know too well the importance of responsible stewardship of the precious natural resources that surround us. Through SAFC, donors lend their support to 21 different conservation groups that advocate a unified vision for regional conservation. As public funding cuts affect these groups, SAFC represents efficient use of scarce donations and a vital means of supporting their efforts.
BlackBird Frame & Art and the artists they represent want to offer several ways that you can help while having a terrific evening. Painter John Mac Kah, one of the region’s most beloved artists, has generously made available for this occasion a signature print based on his painting, “Penland Pond”, a limited edition of 25 giclee prints on archival paper, each signed and numbered by the artist, conservation-matted and mounted by BlackBird, and accompanied by a certificate for $50 toward framing. The full price of $195 for each package will be donated 100% to SAFC. In addition, artists Debbie Arnold, Julia Burr, Carole Bomer, Jerry Cram, Said Osio, Gayle Paul, Susan Sinyai, John Smith, Michelle Sumares, Terry Walton, Karen Weihs, Constance Williams, Jesse Lee and Phil DeAngelo have each designated one of their originals to have 30% of the sale given to SAFC, and BlackBird will also donate 10% of any other art sold throughout the show which runs from October 14th through 31st.
Along with the food, drinks and music, you may acquire a real treasure in support of important work. You can hang out with great people and meet some of Asheville’s finest artists. Bring a friend or invite your neighbor to help make this event successful in support of a good cause!
Call Blackbird Frame & Art at 828-252-6036 or Jody Flemming at SAFC at 828-252-9223 for more information. To see John Mac Kah’s limited edition print, visit either website: blackbirdframe.com or safc.org.
BlackBird Frame & Art is an independent framer and art gallery owned by Pat and John Horrocks. BlackBird was named a Top 100 Art & Framing Retailer by Décor Magazine in 2006 and 2007, and last year three staff members earned the Professional Picture Framers Association’s CPF designation, a first in WNC. BlackBird’s gallery and framing design studio are at 365 Merrimon Ave in Asheville; a second frame studio adjoins their workshop at 30 Bryson Street, just north of Biltmore Village, across from Kinko’s.
