Southern Appalachain Roadless Areas

Only about 15.4% of our national forest still qualify as roadless. (The national average is 31%)

Alabama - 5.6% of the Talladega and 0% of the Bankhead qualify. Places include Oakey Mountain, Blue Mountains, and Cheaha Additions

Georgia - Approximately 9% of the Chattahoochee qualifies, including such aras as Pink Knob (Mountaintown), Cohutta addition, Rocky Mountain, Springer Mountain, Blood Mountain, Raven Cliffs, Brasstown, Patterson Gap, Southern Nantahala Additions, Tray Mountain, Kelly Ridge and Ben Gap

North Carolina - Between the Pisgah and Nantahala, 14.6% qualify for roadless. Places include: Tusquitee Bale, Cheoah Bald, Wesser Bald, Boteler Bald, Upper Bald River, Sycamore Creek, Brushy Ridge, Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock additions, South Mills River, Laurel Mountain, Shining Rock Additions, Middle Prong Additions, Craggy Mountain, Bear Wallow, Mackey Mountain, Dobson Know, Linville Gorge Adiition, Lost Cove, Wilson Creek, and more

South Carolina - The Sumter has few unroaded areas with a 2,500 acre core, only 1.7%. The areas include Bee Cove, and Ellicott Rock Addition

Tennessee - Approximately 13.4% of the Cherokee is Roadless. Areas include Big Frog Addition, Little Frog Addition, Devil's Backbone, Bale Mountain, Sampson Mountain Addition, Beaver Dam Creek, London Bridge Branch, Rogers Ridge, Big Laurel Branch Additions, Flint Mill Gap, and more.

Virginia - The Jefferson and George Washington have the highest amount of roadless areas at 22%. Areas include: Lewis Fork Addition, Little Wilson Creek Addition, Seng Mountin, Raccoon Branch, Little Dry Run, Little Horse Haven, North Fork Pound, Three Sisters, Little River, Oak Knob, Gum RUn, Skidmore, Dry River, Jerkerntight, Crawfor Mountain, Elliott Knob and more.
