Wilderness in Tennessee
In April 2008, SAFC hired a full-time Field Organizer to help coordinate a campaign to expand wilderness in the Cherokee National Forest. Soon, a new website will be unveiled containing information about this exciting campaign. In the meanwhile, we are planning a Wilderness Workshop this summer, and hope you can attend.
Save the Date for a WILDERNESS WORKSHOP on Saturday June 27-28, 2009!
You are invited to a Tennessee Wild Wilderness Workshop planned for June 27-28, 2009 in Knoxville, TN. Please join representatives of the Southern Appalachian Forest Coalition, Sierra Club, Tennessee Citizens for Wilderness Planning, Smoky Mountains Hiking Club, The Wilderness Society, and Campaign for America's Wilderness for an all day event on Saturday, June 27, to learn more about Cherokee National Forest's wilderness issues and ways you can help protect the Volunteer State's remaining National Forest wildlands! The workshop will take place from 10 AM to 5 PM at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Church in Knoxville. The day will be devoted to hands-on workshops and presentations by several esteemed guest speakers, including Doug Scott, author of "The Enduring Wilderness: Protecting our Natural Heritage through the Wilderness Act." Sunday, June 28, will feature an optional outing to the Upper Bald River Wilderness Study Area for a hike.
